The Madagascar 2 movie is a huge flick, tubby of fun and witty lines. If you liked the first movie, this is more of the same, if not better and probably edifying of five stars. The second DVD featuring two Cut Penguin shorts for a total of about 25 minutes of video, isn’t worth the additional cost, in my understanding. The first Madagascar release had a Penguin animation short included as an extra on the movie disc, whereas the current one has two shorts and charges the buyer for the priviledge. And frankly, I concept that the two penguin cartoons, while a bit laughable, were a bit of a disappointment. If one is a Precise fan of the Prick Penguins, then you’ll need to collect this DVD region. Otherwise, I would recommend fair getting the main feature and assign yourself the $7.

Dreamworks’ challenging films have not been able to fill a candle to caliber of Disney/Pixar films, but let’s face it: who can? That said, Madagascar 2 is learning from Pixar at the very least. Exciting films work when they are able to successfully blend humor, heart, and a fine narrative to hold the audience sustained for at least 90 minutes.

Madagascar 2 starts in the honest direction by presenting a very nice opening featuring a brief origin of Alex and how he got to Original York. It’s probably less than 5 minutes, but already plot the tone for the heart of the report, which focuses chiefly on Alex fitting in with his fellow lions. The other chief characters are also stumbling as they interact with their beget in Africa.

Also assist is the humor. I sometimes feel like the movies would be funnier if the penguins had more cloak time, but they are mild droll in whatever scenes they’re in. The granny who beat up Alex in the first film is also aid for some humor. The humor is better and more consistent than the first.

The only flaw in the film is that it is fairly predictable. The chracters are a tiny bit better here than in the first and it has a gracious heart, but sometimes they don’t use as long on the emotional aspect as they could. It’s level-headed grand entertainment and I like to examine Dreamworks progress with their films.

First of all, I admire this movie. I was quite surprised to glimpse it’s release on DVD, and needless to say, I grabbed it. There is no doubt that this disc is loaded with extras, but sadly, the claim that the film has been “fully restored” is extremely misleading. The advantage of these review forums, is to provide insight, from someone who has already bought the product, to those eager. And, that’s what I’m here to do.

Here are the DVD’s special features, as listed: LETTERBOXED PRESENTATION (1.85:1), REMASTERED SOUNDTRACK (in Dolby 5.1 and DTS), NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FOOTAGE, AUDIO COMMENTARY: Jack Vacek (Cinematographer) and Warner Leighton (Editor), 3 TRAILERS (The current theatrical trailers for “GONE IN 60 SECONDS” and “THE JUNKMAN”, and another for the remastered version of “GONE IN 60 SECONDS”), EXTENSIVE BEHIND-THE-SCENES PHOTO GALLERY, DVD-ROM CAPABILITIES, INTRODUCTION with Denice Halicki (H.B. Halicki’s widow) and “Eleanor”.

Sounds very enticing, upright? That’s what I notion. Hell, to be just, I really didn’t care about the extras, as long as I could secure H.B. Halicki’s unique classic on DVD! Naturally, I immediately set the DVD in. Then, my dissapointment began.

Now, what the packaging WON’T speak you, and what I’m about to, is that this isn’t, in fact, a “fully restored” version of the film, but rather, one that has been doctored. Unfortunately, the entire film has been RE-SCORED with crappy music, supposedly aimed at “updating” this classic film, thereby dumping ALL the music from the fresh sever. Yep, the catchy opening title “GONE IN 60 SECONDS” tune is gone, along with the “SUPERMAN” tune, and everything else, as well. Needless, to say, I am very disappointed. Why do people feel the need to mess with movies, like they do? I don’t assume H.B. Halicki would have been proud with what his widow has done with the rights to the film, so far.

I probably wouldn’t have minded this DVD release, if it had offered the recent mono soundtrack on a separate audio channel, like most other remastered DVD’s offer. Then, I would have been splendid with it, as long as I could have the version I wanted to peep. Instead, anyone with hopes to procure a sign modern copy on either DVD or video of this classic car theft film, in it’s recent format, are blooming great screwed. And, that’s too terrible. So, my advice is to stick with the novel out-of-print MEDIA Home Entertainment release. Fill me, that tape will peaceful be in mammoth interrogate for years to advance.

One more thing, there is a website: www.gonein60seconds.com. Perhaps, this would be a tremendous region for just fans of the film to file their complaints. And, who knows, maybe someday we will glance the fresh version released in a respective manner on DVD.

First of all, I’ve loved this movie since I was 6 years venerable. My mom and dad saw it in the cinema — more than once — while they were dating in 1974. To say the least, this title holds special significance in my whole family. Which is why it’s huge to behold it re-released on both VHS and DVD for all to bask in.

For those of you who, like me, have every scene, every line, every sound attain of the modern movie committed to memory, you will be timid when you play the “remastered” version. For one thing, the describe is fair. It’s never looked so ample. And the soundtrack has never sounded so kindly, either — because it’s been completely redone from scratch. That’s the other thing. The sound effects are all current. Gone are the authentic, live-recorded engine sounds, tire screeches, and other hard effects. Gone also is the recent music, including my popular tune, “I Do Hope The Man Doesn’t Win Me”, and the title song, “Gone In Sixty Seconds”. For someone looking for a upright re-release of the authentic, modern film, this is disappointing. But for me, someone who already owns an novel copy of the former MEDIA videotape release of the film, I discover this remastered version honest as a fun modernization of one of my common flicks.

The fresh sound effects are exquisite. I am a sound designer among other things, and some of the modern crashes and guttural V8 engine sounds made me drool. They may not be true-to-life anymore, but they are grand in their have proper. It’s almost surreal, seeing all these conventional muscle cars, but hearing crystal-clear digital stereo effects. By difference, the disturbingly mono unique dialogue track underlaid beneath them sounds almost ridiculous! Fortunately, there is no need for worthy talking during the 40-minute move, easily the highlight of the film.

In short, to really savor the remastered version of Gone In 60 Seconds, you’ve got to assume it for what it is — a original “refreshment” of the recent film. It’s been remixed to appeal more to the same young crowd who enjoyed the 2000 remake with Nicholas Cage. If you are a moral Gone In 60 Seconds fan, however, don’t end here. Go in search of the recent 1974 film in all its glory, on its modern video cassette. A moral fan must indeed have both, for the audio differences between the two versions are so definite, you could almost think them two separate films.

From Russia With Admire, the second James Bond film, is one of the best (in my concept, second only to Goldfinger) . Unlike the later films in the series, From Russia With Treasure is extremely faithful to the Ian Fleming unusual with only limited variations on the chronicle. Sean Connery, of course, is, and always will be, the best James Bond. Newcomer Daniela Bianchi is terrific as pseudo defector Tatiana Romanova. She is glorious, sexy and tantalizing. It’s too abominable she didn’t have more of a hide career. Lotte Lenya (Threepenny Opera), the famous German musical star, does a extraordinary villainous turn as Rosa Klebb, old SMERSH agent who is now working for SPECTRE. Robert Shaw (A Man for all Seasons, Shadowy Sunday, Jaws) is chilling as SPECTRE assassin Red Grant. And Pedro Armendariz, in the performance of his career, plays Ali Karim Bey, the head of Region T, Turkey. Aremedariz’s performance is especially poignant because he was dying of cancer during the filming. He shot himself while in the hospital soon after he was through filming.

From Russia With Appreciate is not only a kindly Bond film, but a sterling film alone, apart from the series. Along with Dr. No and Goldfinger, From Russia With Worship represents a high point that the later films never quite matched.

The DVD transfer is spectacular, with terrific sound and characterize quality. What makes the DVD special, however, are the special features which include three documentaries, trailers, TV and radio spots and cast & crew profiles. The main documentary is especially spellbinding as it details how the filmmakers drastically changed the epic progression during the shoot. As with all of the Bond DVD’s, MGM has done a honorable job, giving the buyer mighty, great more than impartial the film to conception.

I remember both of these pics from when they came out (in fact to this day I have a signed poster of The Loveless hanging in my living room; producer Monty Montgomery was a friend of a friend and he and Willem Dafoe signed it for me) . The Loveless is frosty more for the fact that it’s got a young Willem Dafoe, Robert Gordon and motorcycles; it’s got a laconic roam, I have to be in the mood to gaze it. Smithereens is fun to eye, especially if you lived during that time/scene. It’s so dang authentic and really holds up over time, as great as Penelope Speeris’s “Suburbia,” which was filmed with right people, not actors. Richard Hell is a riot and it was nice to glimpse him (and the lead actress) in a special feature that was shot in fresh years.

Gradually Polack convinces Ashford and subsequently Wallace (Kevin Spacey, also a consistently lovely character actor) and they benefit Pollack in this investigative reporting. The closer Pollack gets to the truth the more surprises and terrible incidents happen and the account runs pall mall toward a series of unexpected results.

Timberlake lacks the charisma to carry the lead, especially in the company of such seasoned actors. But LL Chilly J, Freeman, Spacey, and McDermott sustain the well-oiled machine of a movie rolling to the very slay. Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey’s talent is definitely wasted here! A shame really…

In a nutshell, it’s an average movie and that’s about it; no masterpiece here… Wait till they exhibit it on TV, and even then contemplate about it…

When I first saw this film I simply couldn’t understand why so many people ganged up to trash it. I’ve seen it two more times since then with friends and my concept has only strengthened.

To me this is a far more absorbing film than overrated boomer nostalgia like a “Hard Day’s Night” because it gives a better leer into their personalities–this is their film, and the truest test of unbiased how great you’re on the Beatles’ wavelength, which means a liking for Goon-show type humor and pop surrealism. Therefore people who put a question to every movie to have a “point” or nice understandable set should go benefit to kino-kindergarden and skip the film. (The sort of people who beat words like “self-indulgent” and “unique” into the ground to report what isn’t instantly understandable) MMT is basically a space of music videos loosely held together by the various goings-on during a Ken Kesey-esque coach swagger. And at 55 minutes it’s too short to be slow anyway. The entire point is to sit encourage and not bother–to quote Bob Dylan–shoveling each dream into the ditch of what each one means.

The film of course has mountainous flaws. There are quite a few humorous situations, but the Beatles don’t really earn them.(John and George are more out of it than Ringo and Paul too.) Some of the lightly sketched sequences do inch a bit as a result.But the movie’s strength lies in its resolute silliness–like an overlush, parodic seaside “like affair”, John dressed up as an Italian waiter endlessly shoveling mud-like spaghetti for a obese woman, or the Beatles capering around in wizard’s outfits like kids who’ve eaten too powerful sugar. That silliness shades into satisfactory pop surrealism with the venerable, honorable videos for “I Am the Walrus” and “Blue Jay Arrangement,” featuring the most appealing exhaust of superimposition, unique props in even odder locations, children, indecent lighting, and fleet-footed but purposeful intercutting.(McCartney made for an occasionally clumsy but effective director) They live up to the mood of the songs–they seem genuinely dream-like and design a estimable match with the Beatles’ enthralling videos for “Strawberry Fields” and “Penny Lane.” Those videos, especially the conventional, freaked parents out in their day, and an extended music video like “Magical Mystery Tour” collected manages to irritate people to this day. (Especially all those bad souls who commence by saying “I’m a substantial Beatles fan but…”)

Most of you probably know the general details of the status and the circumstances of this made-for-TV movie by the Beatles, so I’ll stick to a review of the DVD itself. The b/w newsreels (Beatles opening their Apple Boutique, Beatles at Rishikesh) are involving, some promos for the other Beatles-related films are OK, but I was not prepared for the really immoral quality of the film itself. A brilliant (psychedelic, at that) film is now flat and washed out, the print itself speckled and grainy. This film cries out for restoration! An delightful film for Beatles fans (ample proto-music videos), but if you have the VHS version, you don’t need to spring for the DVD until a recent edition (hopefully) gets released.
